the ideology is not on the forms. They were looking at names with tea party and patriot. The fact that most of these were conservative is immaterial. If a Democratic group used patriot, they would be subject to the same scrutiny.

It is amazing that the brilliant media does not get this. Even Obama was wrong in what he said today. (and I am frequently called an Obamabot)

    From the IG report:

The IG found that of 96 so-called Tea Party, Patriot or 9/12 groups that were given extra screening by the agency's Cincinnati office, 79 of showed evidence of “significant political campaign intervention.” In all, 298 applications were held up for additional scrutiny, and the IG noted the fact that 202 were not from Tea Party groups as evidence the agency's actions were "not politically biased."
Lerner was given a summary of the agency's Tea Party investigation in April 2010, as HuffPost reported Monday, and after she was briefed of the improper probes in June 2011, she instructed middle managers to stop focusing on Tea Party groups. But those subordinates -- who are not named in the report -- were able to flout her instructions and to rewrite the “be-on-the-lookout” criteria to reinsert terms that encompassed some Tea Party-type organizations.
Believe me I know all about this lack of training. Within 6 months of working for the IRS, I was doing training because the lady that was teaching us was just flat wrong about things. I told her so and she said 'well you get up here and teach it', so I did. I became part of the training staff after that. I always wondered how I could be teaching a job I had only been doing for 6 months, but that is how the government is, the people that don't know what they are doing get promoted, except in my case of course. LOL!

And I will say most government employees I met in my career worked hard and tried to do their best. The biggest problem is ineffective management and training. The bad management is promoted higher or left alone and this creates bad morale among the people doing work. In this case it appears there was no management review and no quality review.
