...about the Inspector General here in Chicago, criticizing my old employer, CDOT, above choices for signalized intersections that had red-light cameras installed since the program started.

Never mind Alderman Ed Burke having referred to it as a revenue program from day 1.

Never mind the reorganization and one move at CDOT, then the transfer and another move of the Signal Section to OEMC/TMA, then yet another move of the Signal Section, and finally the transfer back to CDOT of the Signal Section in 2010.

The IG says the cameras should be moved to intersections that are more in need of red-light enforcement, never mind that the equipment, like traffic signals, require fixed mounts, and conduits, and foundations for the camera controller. And that the City is currently trying to rid themselves of Redflex, the current red-light camera system contractor. And the Division of Electrical Operations are woefully understaffed with regard to taking over the full operation and maintenance of the cameras. And the Signal Section is woefully understaffed, having no Principle Programmer, and soon will be down to two traffic engineers.

Boy, howdy, am i glad I retired in 2010!
