  •  Sometimes the whistleblowers are working (0+ / 0-)

for the NYT.  They do a pretty good job on financial issues, food supply, education, etc.  They instituted a policy that anyone commenting on a drug had to disclose any possible conflict of interest.  How many media outlets still maintain foreign bureaus?

The NYT is hardly perfect, and I think political reporting is their weakest area, but let's not throw the baby out with the bath water.

they threw out their own bathwater during the runup to Iraq. (See: Judith Miller)

Bottom line--I will never defend them on a working level, but they've got the bigger idea nailed down. People need to wake the fuck up and understand that the real scandal here is NOT the IRS and it is NOT Benghazi. It's the State Security Apparatus spying on those who would report things a truly democratic State should not be doing.

      •  Are you suggesting that a truly democratic state (0+ / 0-)

shouldn't be trying to disrupt Al Quaeda operations?

        •  Do you see where I said that anywhere? (0+ / 0-)

No? Then stop putting fucking words in my mouth and actually read what I posted.

      •  This makes no sense to me. (0+ / 0-)
they threw out their own bathwater
They made a terrible error in judgment with Judy Miller (bathwater).  That bathwater or any similarly dirty water needs to be thrown out.  That doesn't mean everything they do is reprehensible or unworthy of our attention (the baby).  We need to keep reading the good reporting, as well as columnists like Blow, Collins, Krugman, Nocera, Morgenson, and Tommasini.
