takes advantage of every legal loophole there is.  You may think he's one of us, a regular guy, but he's not.  In any way, shape, or form.  He hides money just like all the others.

    •  This is a false equivalency in my opinion: (10+ / 0-)

Buffet follows the law regarding how taxes are paid and investments managed. He does take advantage of the rules favoring the rich.

He, however, unlike the vast majority of rich has dedicated nearly his entire fortune to the Gates foundation and not passing it on to his inheritors.

If he alone overpaid taxes, it would be a drop in the bucket and less paid out over time to those who will benefit from his charity.

Compare his approach with the Waltons - and their generations of near royalty based upon birth. It is not equivalent. Unlike the Waltons he is not looking to find all means to screw over (down?) the largest private workforce in America in order to accumulate an ever greater empire that will last into the foreseeable future. And, lastly, he, unlike the Waltons is in favor of taxing all who are wealthy so it WILL make a difference.

In my opinion, tossing aside these differences and labeling all rich as equal hurts the very things we seek.

vast fortune to charity.  He lives in a simple ranch house he bought 50 years ago.

He DOES have a fiduciary duty to take advantage of tax policy as Chairman of Berkshire though.  They are a public company.

    •  no, he doesn't (0+ / 0-)

he does utilize the legal loopholes that any self-respecting capitalist would (why would he pay more taxes than he legally has to? that's derelict in his duty to his shareholders).

but he tells it how it is, and doesn't sock money away in the caymans or anything like that. so no, he doesn't hide money.

      Deficits don't matter, jobs do.
