      where the GOP thrives "and the calendar is lying when it reads the present time."   That lyric is in both the Mississippi and Nixon versions of the Phil Ochs song and is still spot on.

        I hadn't thought much about Nixon lately until about a month ago when I went to the Nixon Library/Museum/Birthplace for a political memorabilia show. It was strange; a lot of it was still whitewashing his history even now (after it was taken over by the presidential library system).  The best part (besides the old campaign buttons) was the opportunity to walk through the helicopter that carried Nixon away after he resigned. Also I snagged a kumquat from one of the trees in the garden. Like all kumquats it was a little sweet but mostly sour. Sort of like Dick Nixon...
