    We had two of them in the front yard when I was a kid. Every year, some kind of small caterpillar would eat the leaves (but would never defoliate the tree). When it came time to pupate, the larvae would decend to the ground by means of a silk thread. Walking under those mimosas was like walking through multiple spider webs. Mom wanted the trees gone, and gone they were.

    Even though I spent hours climbing in those trees as a youngster, I am not the least bit nostalgic for mimosas. Cut 'em all down. I find them growing out in the forest, sometimes a long way from any apparent seed source.
