  •  That depends though on the income (0+ / 0-)

differential between the person subsidized and the childcare worker they are replaced with. If the parents are only capable of making minimum wage, it may not make sense to hire someone else to absorb their childcare responsibilities.

    •  Well duh, that (1+ / 0-)

is the gate to generational change. The argument you make in effect supports the pink ghetto of permanent low wage work or child care.

to do pre-k. And then when there is pre-k there should be activities for mothers too, to transition back to work, like school or workshops. The issue is that childcare and house wifery is not valued and you pretty much proved that. You lose momentum if you have a child and are not back in the work stream as soon as you can think straight. The loss of momentum is a cultural stigma. It's high time we eradicated it.

          •  And how would you end it? (0+ / 0-)

Why would employers choose someone who has been out of the work force for years, with children!, when they have so many without children who havent to choose from? I am not disagreeing with you but how do you destigmatize it? We have already stigmatized working mothers as not caring about their childrn and 'wanting it all' and we now we want to change all that to yes you can have it all and you ar entitled to it?
