  •  The Barnes collection was "revealed" (6+ / 0-)

for the first time a short time after I graduated college having studied Art History - seeing that collection for me at that time was an amazing experience.  A whole new look at the artists in the collection through different paintings that few people had seen since they were created is an experience that I will never forget.

There was another moment like that one which was when I went to the Van Gogh museum in Paris and saw a self portrait that I'd never even seen in a book or a plate.  I rounded a corner and just came to a full stop mesmerized by the painting.  I think I said, "Wow!" out loud.  The technique, intensity of the image, and - lol - the madness apparent in the image was stunning.  But I never would have seen all of that had I not seen that paining "live".
