    summarize & evaluate the research in the field?   A single, unreviewed student review paper is useless, at best -- unless you know nothing about science, have an axe to grind, or both.

      is particularly useful if you know nothing about a topic or have been exposed to one of several versions (and especially if that one version is stated as if there are no competing views).  It is not the end of the discussion but rather a reasonable starting point for true self- education: an invitation to explore as deeply as one's interest and background indicate. The FDA update linked below is a short but definitive restatement of the conclusions of the earlier investigation (with refs), also linked.
