  •  Rachel Maddow: GOP’s Benghazi smoking gun.. (12+ / 0-)

    ..via ABC news was faked

(short commercial - sorry - republican Benghazi "scandal"reporting starts at minute 2:18)

The flawed reporting that touched off a firestorm http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/... - By Steve Benen  Wed May 15, 2013 8:43 AM EDT

ABC's reporting on Friday, which touched off a major political firestorm, pointed to a top White House official who reportedly sent an email siding with the State Department and recommending the removal of specific references to terrorist organizations and CIA warnings from the talking points. Jake Tapper at CNN reported yesterday that ABC was wrong -- the "actual email differs from how sources characterized it" to ABC's Jonathan Karl.
ABC last night referred me [Steve Benen]) to this statement from Karl.
I asked my original source today to explain the different wording on the Ben Rhodes e-mail, and the fact that the words "State Department" were not included in the e-mail provided to CNN's Tapper.
This was my source's response, via e-mail: "WH reply was after a long chain of email about State Dept concerns. So when WH emailer says, take into account all equities, he is talking about the State equities, since that is what the email chain was about."
So the quoted statement that ABC news Jonathan Karl reported as actual quotes from e-mails that “confirm” the state department  instigated 12 changes – “scrubbing” -  to Benghazi talking points – fake – the real emails btw, were provded to congressional  intelligence committees months ago
ABC's Karl originally told his audience that he'd "obtained" White House materials, when in fact he'd seen summaries, apparently provided by a Republican staffer on Capitol Hill, which we now know were misleading. Karl received unreliable information, and seems to have been incomplete in how he characterized his direct knowledge of the information.
A fabrication that helped raise a stink the GOP tried unsuccessfully for months to raise.

Yet where is the GOP’s concern for solutions – to anything?  Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens (RIP) and the other diplomats working in dangerous jobs around the world seem to be mere “talking points” to the republicans, as do most people who aren’t of the 1%er status –that should be the scandal imo

This has probably been covered here @ Daily Kos - but just wanted to add Rachel Maddow's & Steve Benen's take on it
