  •  This was my thought upon reading (8+ / 0-)

This was one of your best LL - and that is saying something.

As I read, all I could think of was the wealth and power literally "invested" into the status quo. We can readily see how much power by the fact that we are even having a "debate" about the issue - so important is the "debate" that the powerful must denigrate science generally (evolution, "liberal professors").

As I read, all I could think of was that there needed to be an investment opportunity - for the already rich in carbon - to even get them to contemplate changing. I know that sounds sick, it IS sick, but I see no other way. The only way to enlist the power wealth driving the status quo is assure their wealth in the transition.

It is so depressing and perhaps I am particularly cynical this morning but that doesn't mean it's not partly true.

In my more conspiratorial moments, I wonder if the real engine driving the huge inequality that seems to be ramming through the world right now is the fact that the global elite know how much the world will be changing and it will require enormous wealth to ensure the survival and "comfort" of the next generations.

Blessed are the peacemakers, the poor, the meek and the sick. Message to Repug Fundies: "DO you really wonder "what would Jesus do?" I didn't think so.
