  •  not all of us . . . there was a range of opinion. (0+ / 0-)

But "are you stoned or just stupid" was not an unreasonable question at some of the anti-nuke demonstrations . . . then as now.  Although now the odds more strongly favor the latter.

Of course back in the 60's nobody was expecting global warming, either.  And not just because we were too stoned to think about it . . . I recall Scientific American articles seriously considering the possibility of another ice age.  Those of us who objected to growing fossil fuel use back then did so for other reasons.

It's been a slow evolution of knowledge since then, and it's understandable that some people would cling to their old beliefs (however irrational) even as evidence of the effects of CO2 on global warming and the oceans mounted.  The bottom line, however, is that coal and oil won over nuclear . . . and a significant part of the reason for that is the anti-nuclear hysteria that started in the 60's and has been with us ever since.  And it continues . . . and yes, "the world as we knew it" is the casualty.

So it's not "the hippies" fault . . . but, giving credit where credit is due, it sure is the fault of the opponents of nuclear power.

    Fake Left, Drive Right . . . not my idea of a Democrat . . .
