    desperately wanted capitalism to set up trust funds for all Americans of his and succeeding generations so they could be the party hosts and bestowers.  For him there was no dignity in toil when play was everything.  It explains his fascination with and indulgence of the very unfortunate Zelda because it clearly made him the partner bestowing largesse--until he no longer could and it no longer helped her to accept or acknowledge it.
