Though this is certainly not a rant. I also come here because people disagree, and argue, but do so substantively and respectfully. I've felt recently that either the quality or the site's own culture has gone downhill a little though. There's still some front pagers who demand and deserve reading - meteor blades for substance, Hunter for humor (and substance). But there is more of a sense of folks shutting other folks down, when before people could be pretty harsh but much more open to argument. It's more consensus driven now. There's more ad hominem arguments in diaries and comments... and fewer substantive diaries on the rec list. But the site goes through cycles. It will no doubt improve again especially as the next election cycle draws near.

as the bludgeon through which the complaints you raise are justified by some.  The focus on elections- with the concomitant demand for loyalty- is a major source of the problem IMO.

It wasn't even really meant to be a nostalgic look at the bad old days, either.

It was just something that I was feeling lately.  I think I'm disappointed - this too shall pass - but I felt the need to say something about it.

I don't think that dkos has gone to hell or whatever - I think that the political landscape and the lack of movement - real progress - is taking its toll on all of the political blogs and across the culture of people who care about politics.

I was tempted to ask what people were going to do for the next three years since it seems that our government has come to a grinding halt.  That's bad isn't it?

I get bored when things center around superficial arguments over nothing - and not to say that the issues are nothing - but more to say that since nothing is going to get done about any of these issues - and if something does get done it will be done in a knee-jerk thoughtless fashion - then we are talking about nothing - or at least nothing I want to be a part of.

      just my 2 cents
