  •  DoJ did get court approval (5+ / 0-)

It's my understanding that the DOJ did go through the courts, probably FISA, in order to get access to the AP phone logs. Now the law itself may be poorly written but I do believe that the DOJ was in compliance thus the lack of outcry from the Repubs on this issue.

The most I've heard was that it was "unclear" whether court approval was obtained, which to me means none was obtained or else they would have trumped this right away. Do you have links to back this?

on the AP phone records story is that someone in Republican leadership happened to think about the fact that when/if it comes out that the leak of the classified information came from a Republican, a leak that not only endangered our people but also damaged national security... well, that might not look so good for them.

It's also interesting to me to think of the whipsaw effect this week's pseudo-scandals have had on the mainstream media.  First, they're screaming that their rights have been trampled.  Then, it comes to light that the Republicans lied to them about the content of the Benghazi e-mails, shining light on the fact that they've become glorified stenographers for the GOP.  Some of the MSM are mightily pissed about that.
