  •  There's a coalition between First Nations (7+ / 0-)

environmentalists and people employed in the fishing and tourism industries in BC. A very strong coalition. We had a huge demonstration in front of the provincial legislature. The First Nations were the most eloquent speakers and the crowd was roaring.

People in tourism and fishing who were not worried about the pipelines initially are really worried about the tankers travelling the coast where a spill could wipe out their livelihood.

But First Nations have stood strong against intense pressure from industry. There have been industry reps going to the reserves and offering a percentage of the profits, new buildings, jobs. This is not easy to resist.
