  •  the whole "public lands" thing is kind of a... (5+ / 0-)

distraction in my view.  it looks to me like the administration is creating a big smoke screen of creating regulations on the fracking industry.  these regulations won't, of course, apply to private land (which is where most fracking takes place anyway) and if they become burdensome to the frackers, the government will probably just sell them the public land, rendering the regulations moot.

so, the administration gets to bloviate about creating regulations on fracking.  the fracking activists get involved in the process and spend a lot of their energy and resources chasing a phantom.  corporate america, the koch brothers and the rest of the frackers laugh all the way to the bank.

    sound about right?

Obama Admin. “Huddled” with Industry Before Rules Released

On April 12, EnergyWire‘s Mike Soraghan revealed that the Obama Admin. “huddled” with Big Oil before releasing BLM’s final rules, watering them down to suit the industry’s taste.

Heather Zichal, deputy assistant to the president for energy and climate change, “met more than 20 times in 2012 with industry groups and company executives lobbying on the proposed rule,” according to Soraghan’s review of White House visitor records. “Among them were the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA), along with BP America Inc., Devon Energy Corp. and Exxon Mobil Corp.”

it sounds a little like the word we used to use.  while a good euphemism is a thing of beauty to last forever, i think that i prefer the old term, "whoring."
