  •  I totally agree. (10+ / 0-)

There's no excuse for rape. Period. Same goes for murder and abuse. Well, maybe if you kill someone out of self-defense, then that's the only way you could possibly excuse killing another person, but you'd have to prove that it was necessary in the first place.

I'll concede on one point from a past Steubenville topic: I guess throwing 9-12 year olds in prison is extreme. Teenagers are different though. They shouldn't be treated like kids. These guys, like the thugs from Steubenville, knew what they were doing and enjoyed it.

I understand why people think they need to go easy on them because of their age, but crimes like this go well beyond the whole "naïve youth" stipulation.

No, teenagers aren't different, they're still children.  Maybe they can be rehabilitated or maybe they can't.  As I said, I don't know.

But to say teenagers are different, they're really not.  They're still children.

And if you think teenagers aren't children, how about we lower the age to buy alcohol to 13, or lower the age to buy cigarettes to 13, or lower the driving age to 13, or lower the voting age to 13... for starters.

    •  Self Defense is not murder. (4+ / 0-)

Nor is killing others who are doing deadly harm to another person.

When the NRA fantasy happens, some big bad guy kicks in your door and attacks you with a chainsaw, and you kill him, it is not murder.  Nor is it murder if the the BBG with a chainsaw is attacking your neighbor and you kill him.

This is not saying that a person is not committing murder when they use a high power rifle to shoot a person stealing a lawnmower from your neighbor four blocks away.

When a Soldier is sent by their government to war, as long as they follow the rules of engagement, established by the government, they are not committing murder.

Stupid question hour starts now and ends in five minutes.
