      ... the laity are ordained by virtue of their baptism.

      But training & practice are generally required to help them manage the page-flipping of daily offices with a minimum of consternation.  :-)

          I've attended many an ordination at St. Luke's and elsewhere.

          What's especially nice is a perpetual diaconate, something of which the Rt. Rev. Jack Spong disapproved when he was the bishop of Newark.  We had two in our parish but they were grandfathered-in before +Jack arrived.

          There is definitely a need for perpetual deacons (especially here in Maine) and I firmly believe in the calling.

          I was merely saying how nice it also is when licensed and properly trained lay people lead the offices.
