    There's actually more than "take precautions and go inside" that you can do.  And more than just the obvious "don't leave trash around, watch out for water sources."

    I intend to put some of those in diaries... the idea being that you reduce the habitat for the things and encourage predators.

      standing water around our homes, including the gutters, but the air was thick with mosquitoes all last summer.

      Aside from spraying on repellent every day (and over and over if you stay outside long), there's not a lot you can do.  We never determined the source of all those mosquitoes, but all the residents in our neighborhood worked really hard to do everything possible.
