    with those who will be more interested in pushing their religious (or anti-religious) opinions onto others.  They will be attracted like piranhas to blood. And they don't do anyone any good.

      Yes, a lot of people within the Atheist community are like a condemned man asking the Governor, not for a pardon, but to switch seats.

      Of course the reason is like you would guess, there are Atheists whose agenda is not to gain recognition from the religious, and the challenge in this group is to get people to realize that grouping all Atheists in with them is like grouping all Christians in with the Westboro Baptist Church.

        You will need to make it VERY clear that the agenda of the group is to find ways for atheists and progressives to work together on atheist "civil rights" issues--and anyone who has some other ideological agenda than that, would probably be happier someplace else.

        Otherwise, it will inevitably turn into a "religion vs no religion" debate (because that is some people's ONLY agenda), which helps nobody.
