Even atheists are not above criticism.

And more importantly, and as should be obvious at anyone, criticizing the extremist portion of any group is not to criticize the group over-all nor its goals.

    •  Why is that criticism relevant here? (0+ / 0-)

It's a simple respectful request: respond to the people participating here, and the points raised here, not people and perspectives raised over there or hypothetically at some indefinite point.

That's not obvious when criticism of the extremist portion claims a monopoly on the discussion. We are now at a point where twitter messages by Dawkins are "news" worthy of an op-ed.  A full half of the comments on this post are dedicated to criticism of something that's nowhere in evidence.

Where are the insightful commentaries on Stedman, Epstein, MacGowan, De Botton, Al-Khalili, Dworkin, and De Waal who actually published stuff in the last few months?  If you're going to engage in criticism, you need to be willing to engage with the best as well as the worst. Otherwise, what you call "criticism" isn't worthy of that word.

      •  Because the OP thought it worth mentioning. (0+ / 0-)

It was topical and it was intended as helpful advice. Once that is established, that you, I or the milkman disagrees with it does not matter one way or the other.
