  •  "They" own the media, we don't (13+ / 0-)

It is our job to convince voters.  We're gonna have to use channels that don't rely on the media.  We need to talk to people, engage with them, persuade.  We need to communicate with our fellow citizens.

Blogging's all well good, it's an excellent tool for comparing notes and developing lines of discourse, but we need to bring our point(s) of view to the public.  We need to actually talk to actual people who aren't necessarily predisposed to agree with us.   The only advantage we have over the plutocracy that rules our country is that there are a lot of us.

How are small handfuls of people (antichoicers, NRA, etc.) dominating our national discourse?  Because they own the media.  And also because we aren't counterbalancing that advantage with real grassroots groundwork.  That doesn't need to be big rallies and advertising style data mining.  It can be as simple as having conversations with the guy who fixes your car, the people you work with, the clerk at the Quik Mart, the folks next to you in the check out line.  We are everywhere, we just need to talk to one another.

We are the people.  We need to act accordingly.  As long as we don't, we get what we've been getting.
