    but if he doesn't buy a lottery ticket, his chances of getting out of financial trouble are LESS than one in 175 million.

    it preys on the desperation of the poor because you have to be really desperate to take your last dollar and place a bet you are almost certain to lose

      of a poor person getting out of that situation. But 1 in 175 thousand, or even 1 in 1 thousand, is bleak enough.
