The photo reminds me of Castle Rising in Norfolk (I think) which we visited in '92. The stop was part of a tour given the 457th BG reunion group and was on our way back from Sandringham to Peterborough. I was interested in it because I knew that Edward III had "pensioned" (some say imprisoned) his mother there after he had his step-father executed. I was amazed how small the footprint was.

In '90, a similar tour had us drive by the pile of rubble which is all that remains of Fotheringey Castle, where Mary, Queen of Scots was executed. It distresses me no end that architectural/archeological treasures like those can suffer such an end.

Is there a link from the early de Greys to John Grey, first husband of Elizabeth Woodville (Queen of Edward IV) and ancestor of Lady Jane Grey?
