The who and the how are completely interchangeable as we have seen.  It's the why that is always the same.

I don't know if you saw the Oliver Stone miniseries on Showtime, but I learned so much about our history over the last 60+ years. To think, if one or two people be able to stay or become President we might have headed in a completely more positive direction.

We don't own a TV, and I am currently boycotting all TV shows because they waste so much time that I could just as easily waste here (:-)).

Be that as it may, I often wonder if outcomes would truly have been different had presidential elections gone differently.  So much of foreign and military policy is up to career civil servants, while presidents come and go.  Of course, if you're talking about G. W. Bush, there's no question that he mucked things up beyond all previous muck-ups (as it were).  Changing the outcomes of the 2000 and 2004 elections really would have made a profound difference.

      •  I don't blame you for not owning (4+ / 0-)

        a TV.

The person I really think could have made a difference was Henry Wallace. I didn't know much about him prior to watching the series, but had the insitutionalists not interfered in the '44 Convention, Wallace would have easily been the VP nominee once again. The people Truman put into his Cabinet would have never been in a Wallace Cabinet. Who knows, the dropping of the Bomb and the Cold War may never have occurred.
