Catfish, hummm...stalking birds. Good link, thanks.

I once watched a red-winged blackbird snatched from its cattail perch above the water by a large northern pike.

Tastes just like chicken, I've heard.

I love nature, science and my dogs.

      squared!

There is that great tv series about large fish and that british fella that is chasing them....including the European catfish that actively snoops along the riverbank. They have drowned people, altho it is poo poohed by 'experts' that suggest they are 'only' defending their nests. Ok, I feel better...a small child in the shallows would be down the hatch, their mouth on a 7' one is a foot wide.

There are catfish in the India river system that drag water buffalo in, and people too.  Freaky!

and he gets in the water and swims among them.

Then there are the Bull Sharks that tolerate, give birth in perhaps, fresh water, and have been found 1000 miles up fresh water rivers...where they seem to stick with fish..and also attack fish being reeled in by fishermen.

Few people even knew they were there, yet they are a known human eater...just on a fish diet...mostly, when in fresh water. The noted exception are all the people killed and eaten by an unknown monster, like the kids in New Jersey early last century.

Ansd if you really want to not sleep or go near the water, snapping turtles kill ducks, babies especially...but that's not the worst turtle tale.

In Africa, the turtles in the waterholes grab bird legs, and then the rest of the turtles mob the victim. It is maybe the most ugly natural event I have seen...on tv thankfully.

are the gratuitous or wasteful ones. Like the orcas that use baby seals as playthings before killing them.

        Predation is hard to witness.

Even grazing can be, like slugs. Or cutworms, which eat just around the base off a veggie stem, killing it and then move on to the next, leaving the rest of the plant to waste.

Just as another viewpoint on all these aquatic-on-terrestrial horror stories, if you saw these animals in the water, where they live, you'd be surprised how un-scary they are. Even sharks. Unless you are on the surface, or chumming the water, most sharks will be afraid of YOU, and swim away. There aren't that many species that are actively aggressive underwater.

Toe Biters...i'm just sayin..nothing clears out a forest pool of a bunch of dfh's than showing the dozen or three toe biters hanging around the edges.

that's what the cookie cutter shark does, these little socialists just take what need...as different than the cowardly gw sharks that attack from under and behind and chomp and let the poor little seal bleed to death...well, at least they aren't playing with them...or are they (cue video of leaping gw sharks near the Farralons..)

and then there's the insect world for beauty and community values :>
