  •  The C-CPI is a cut in Social Security benefits (6+ / 0-)

And there is only one thing that's going to make me angrier than the cut itself and that is the lying spin that it isn't a cut.

If the Democratic Party thinks they can lie me into voting for cuts in my own Social Security that are not only liars they are crazy liars and crazy liars is a pretty good definition of Republicans so don't tell me it makes a difference.

    •  There is no "C-CPI" (1+ / 0-)

What we have now is C-CPI-W. It is a basket designed around working people. C-CPI-E is a basket designed around Seniors who spend more on healthcare and medications so they appreciate having more of a cost of living increase for their insurance and meds. C-CPI-U which incorporates C-CPI-E and creates a basket which is a better deal for people on Social Security comes with a raise in the minimum wage and an end to the cap. Its exactly what Obama says it is. He isn't going to balance the deficit on the backs of the poor and the elderly. As somebody who is both poor and elderly I appreciate that.

      •  The cap is never going to end (0+ / 0-)

That's an absurd pipe dream. If we can't even get the top tier income tax rate raised by a few percentage points, how are we going to get a 13% increase passed? There's zero chance of that happening.

If it gets raised a bit that will be very good, but it doesn't in any way balance out a lower COLA since it doesn't directly help retirees. And neither does a raise in the minimum wage.
