    ok...what's so bad about cutting Social Security if (and I emphasize "if") we can get rich people to pay a little more in taxes (although it would probably be written so they wouldn't and the tax burden would fall on the middle class)?
    At any rate, even if you don't agree that the italics above go a long way with an answer to your own question (which isn't exactly an answer, seeing as how it seems to depend on the middle class getting screwed, again)--I can try below?

      I think that IS the grand bargain. Retirees will have benefits cut in return for the middle class paying more taxes that will benefit banksters and the war profiteers.

        You know, some people would just gloss right over those words in the subject line. I've done it myself ;)

        I think you're right, though, I've thought it for months. And it's no bargain and it's unacceptable and if this President makes that deal, then he's a sellout and he's a liar.
