...he seemed focused entirely on the leak. I got the impression that he was grateful that AP ran it by the government before publishing.

I could have read him wrong, of course.

    •  I saw your theory about this and think it's (0+ / 0-)

interesting.  I am one of those who believe the Government has an interest in keeping agents safe and in a position to do their job.  The issue of leaks is an interesting one.  Wasn't they conservative/very left theory once that the WH was deliberately using leaks?  Is your theory that it wasn't deliberate but that they haven't been able to confirm who the person leaking is?  Or is your theory that the leaks are unrelated to those that had people up in arms a year or two ago?

Their is a pile of news reports during that time:

GOP senators push for special prosecutor to probe security leaks

These issues have not been resolved.

In an unrelated matter, there is The case of Stephen Jin-Woo Kim, the government adviser, and James Rosen, the chief Washington correspondent for Fox News

In both this and the AP case, a news outlet was involved. But the target is not the reporter. The target is the leaker of classified documents.

The unsolved leaks seem to be designed to hurt the administration and/or frighten the public.

That's why I suggest that it is sabotage. Certainly, if not against the President, then against America.

how we have a conversation on whether or not the DoJ actions were warranted without knowing the nature of the leak.  It's like there is an assumption that the fact that there IS a leak is a neutral point when it fact it is the crux of the problem.  To argue that the Government is overreaching is to assume the leak doesn't matter.  And to assume the leak doesn't matter without understanding the leak is to assume that leaks don't matter.  And I think they do.  I'm willing to listen to why the Government overreached but I'm not willing to just assume for the sake of argument that the leaked information didn't matter.  And if there is a person deliberately leaking harmful information that is even more reason to try to find that person.

          •  In the Rosen case (0+ / 0-)

the subpoena has been released and published.

The journalist is listed as a co-conspirator so he is a target as well.

            •  It was only for the warrant. (0+ / 0-)

No charges were ever filed against the reporter.

I guess they felt they needed to name him to get the records they were investigating.

However, there is much wailing about it right now. It is a huge Fox propaganda push, exhuming what happened years ago and pretending they were oh-so-injured,
