    ...for these programs in about 10 years.

    Something does need to be done to change the fundamental problem with costs.  That doesn't necessarily mean that Medicare and Medicaid need to be cut or have their benefits reduced, but something needs to happen either to increase the ability to pay for these programs, or the costs need to be contained in some way.  Being able to leverage size to bargain for better deals on drugs, equipment, and suppliess would be a good start.

      there will need to be some sort of changes, but in no way does it require cutting benefits.  Giving the government more power to negotiate as you mentioned would help a lot.  Lifting the cap on income subject to the payroll tax for SS would solve that problem.

      The thing that annoys me is when people say "we have to do something" about entitlements, when they clearly mean nothing other than cutting benefits.  Because the great unwashed 99% have it too easy.
