  •  But I bet they use less public funds (0+ / 0-)

In the end, that's why many Dems support charter schools.

It's charter schools and reasonable property tax bills

    vs

Public schools and continued increase in the tax rate on property.

It's not hard to see why many Dem pols at the state and city level have supported charter schools.

are opportunists. Charters are part of a privatization campaign and privatization is never cheaper. People are starting to figure it out, watch and see.

      •  What do you call public school proponents.. (0+ / 0-)

..who insist on the status quo, even if the status quo results in a property tax rate (on the market value) that's 175%  what they were paying one decade ago, while the median wage has stagnated during that time frame?

There are actually good charters. American Federation of Teachers runs one, e.g. FOR-PROFIT charters are evil, though. Making money off of education in this way and off sick people are equally reprehensible, in my opinion.

I believe we're only in the first phase of privatization, the destruction of the current system. After the traditional public system has been broken down there will be a consolidation phase where charters will be bought up and consolidated into large for-profit chains. My concern is that non-profit schools will be bought up and turned into for-profit operations. There is precedent for this. It happened with hospitals when even nuns sold out.

The free market is not the solution, the free market is the problem.
