    this protest, because without the First Amendment, protests like this could be stifled no matter where and when they took place, and no matter whether the protesters were complying with the law or not.

    The First Amendment means that the government cannot make decisions about how "important" the content of your speech is in deciding how to treat your violation of law even relatively minor laws like traffic laws.  I'm sure you wouldn't want Rick Perry making that of decision, or George Bush making that kind of decision.   The same First Amendment that allows government to tell anti-abortion rights groups that they can't block access to an abortion provider is the law that I support in this case.  

    You can't have it both ways.  The law has to apply equally to causes you support and causes you don't support.

      There's been severely disparate and biased responses to different protests depending on the political content.
