  •  do you have a different source than the Thomas (16+ / 0-)

More Society?  I am afraid their view of IRS activities regarding the CLI's application might be a bit jaundiced.  (article may not be neutral)

when it comes to the Thomas More Society (AKA, the" Legal Liars for Jebus".) They're about as unreliable a source as possible for something like this.

It's also worth noting that it wouldn't take much twisting to make a perfectly correct statement from the IRS officer "quoted" by TMS in this case into the statement they claim was made; just insert the word "illegal" in front of every instance of the word "protest" and this becomes a much more likely scenario. The IRS agent may well have said something on the order of "Look, you've been heavily involved in promoting illegal protests at these Planned Parenthood facilities in the past and that would normally bar you from gaining tax exempt status. However, if you have your board sign a document to us saying you won't do these illegal things anymore, then we can see our way clear to granting you that status after all."

It's a lot more likely than that an IRS agent at that level would have demanded something (in writing!) from them that would be patently illegal for the IRS to demand as a condition of granting any exempt status (i.e., the ability to take part in legal protest activity directly related to their organization's core mission.) This smells like another right-wing nothingburger, not like a suppression of an anti-choice group by an over-reaching IRS.

      •  Make them prove what they claim: produce the doc. (3+ / 0-)

It would be very easy to find if the Domino's Pizza cum Operation Rescue Thomas More Center is actually telling the truth. All they have to do is make the actual document they were asked to sign by the IRS available to the media. If there really was something there there, they would have already done so. But since we are talking about both the Daily Caller and paid shills for Operation Rescue, which IMO is a continuing criminal enterprise under RICO statutes, you really have to consider the source.
