If, as you point out, we are looking at future where the production of goods and most services is largely automated and robotized, we will have arrived at Karl Marx's predicted end stage of capitalism.

With little left for people to do in the realm of traditional work, THE OWNERSHIP OF THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION will determine one's place in the economic order.

If you own the machines, you will be rich.

If you don't, you will be working at one of the few jobs that demand human contact, or you will be on the dole, or in prison, or for many in the third world you will starve.

Or, we can imagine a revolutionary future of shared wealth and creative activity for all.

Labor was the first price paid for all things. It was not by money, but by labour, that all wealth of the world was originally purchased. - Adam Smith

I just posted it like 2 min ago, so its on the recent diary list on the main page.

You are absolutely right about Marx.....aside from all the jingoism of "COMMUNISM.....AAAAHHH!!!" Marx really was a genius commenter and analyst when it comes to the realities of market economies and capitalism.

I try and provide some answers for ways out of this mess and to show that all is not hopeless.  Please check it out and join our group "Money and Public Purpose" as we are the only group that analyzes the economy through our modern post-gold standard fiat currency reality.
