  •  Will Have To Research The Coffee Can Compost (5+ / 0-)

I just, outside of coffee grinds, don't produce enough waste to make the darn thing work. I got a ton of coffee cans in my garage, cause I hope as I learn to garden more I can use them in later years if I start from seed.

    •  I don't know if there is research, (6+ / 0-)

it's what I do and it works. There are anywhere from 2 to 7 people in the house at any given time and all vegetable scraps, coffee grounds and eggshells and stuff go into the cans and they sit for awhile, sometimes outside in the sun which really cooks the mix. Roses like the slop, they love banana peels too.

and found this but WheninRome's method sounds easier!

I made a vermicomposter bin a while back out of a large rubbermaid-type bin. The worms couldn't keep up with my scraps; we eat a lot of veggies. I can't do it in the yard because we're in a city type neighborhood with small yards and something gets into my compost pile and strews things about. I hate throwing stuff out, though, so I may try the coffee cans.

Get old and do lots of stuff in the process. Half of the fun is trying everything out. --Noddy
