  •  Building Codes are GOOD! (5+ / 0-)

Florida has strict building codes supported by the insurance industry, first responders and just about all others with a functioning brain. They save lives and greatly reduce property damage during hurricanes. The codes protect people from having their home destroyed by someone else's roof crashing into it, among other things. California has a similar set of seismic codes for the exact same reasons. Oklahoma, don't even think about asking for my tax dollars while complaining about "gummint regalashuns" harming your freedom. You do not have the freedom to be idiots at my expense. BTW, FEMA has free plans/specs for retrofitting any house with a storm shelter, and it can be done by anyone with mild handyman skills for a small amount of money.
