  •  Wingnuts and the magic sixty votes (1+ / 0-)

In the wingnuts' alternate universe, there is a sixty-vote threshold whenever it serves their purpose.

Example: in a FB discussion with a Huckabee disciple ("The time to impeach is NOW!"), I pointed out that with the current Senate, the House can impeach until the cows come home, but there wouldn't be a conviction.

Well, as I was informed, that's what the Kenyan Usurper would have his sheeple believe. OF COURSE the Marxist Muslim would be removed from office since it takes sixty votes to overturn an impeachment. Or so the wingnut lady believed anyway.

In vain I tried to explain that it actually takes two thirds of the Senate to CONVICT; that's why Bill Clinton was not removed from office. I received the standard wingnut response: READ THE CONSTITUTION.

you don't "overturn" an impeachment, since impeachment just refers to the trial itself.  "Overturning" it would just be an acquittal.

I hope you explained this as well.

Also, I love when wingnuts I know tell me to read the Constitution in these cases.  Especially the ones who know I majored in poli sci.  How do they think I got that degree in the first place, if not by studying the Constitution?
