View Diary: Have Dems sold out too early on immigration? Not if they want something to actually pass (317 comments)

  •  And what did they do to get those votes? (9+ / 0-)

The proof is in the pudding.  Democrats managed to finagle enough votes in the Senate when they really wanted something.  They put as much effort into card check as they put into ENDA.  The one-time minimum wage increase was far less than what was needed to reverse decades of decline, and it wasn't indexed to inflation or GDP.

My argument is stupid, huh?  Very persuasive.

If you want to cut Social Security, you're not a real Democrat.

    •  stupid and ignorant. (14+ / 0-)

I worked for a union in DC in 2009, right alongside the legislative coordinators who were working on EFCA and health care reform. They certainly thought the vast majority of Dems were on their side.

It isn't every other Democrat's  fault that Blanche Lincoln was doing everything she could to prevent EFCA from passing.

      •  Inside the Beltway that might make sense (7+ / 0-)

From out here in the country, organized labor looks like one more group Democrats don't lift a finger for until they can't avoid it.

The president and the party leadership at that time were doing all they could to help Blanche Lincoln win her 2010 primary against a somewhat better Democrat, even though she looked likelier to lose the general election than Bill Halter did.  Which was remarkably like the support they gave the traitor Joe Lieberman. Some pressure on them to play along, huh?

Yes, and they did that even after Lincoln threatened to filibuster health insurance reform.

Obama is the Chickenshit-in-Chief for failing to stand up to Republicans on all their phony scandals, from the "beer summit," to Van Jones, "death panels," Shirley Sherrod, contraception, Benghazi, and the IRS.

      •  No. It's Obama's fault for not threatening to... (6+ / 0-)

...campaign for Lincoln's primary opponent unless she toed the line.

But he was too chickenshit to play hardball. No one respects or fears Obama. And that's a problem.
