If this was an exercise in political grandstanding, then sure, make the bill perfect and trumpet its purity to the high heavens. But this is an attempt at actual governance. And that requires compromises, many of which will be unpalatable. In other words, sausage-making.
This is classic, short-sighted Obamism. You surprise me. At this point, the Democrats' goal ought to be to get enough power to get things done. That would be "an attempt at actual governance."

"Actual governance" means taking back the House in 2014, which is an extremely tall order. It would be far, far better to focus on that battle, even if it means getting nothing done between now and the next elections.

The focus on sausage-making is what cost Democrats the 2012 elections. Some of us were smart enough to see that one coming. And yet, some of us are still not smart enough to have learned from 2010.

Obama is the Chickenshit-in-Chief for failing to stand up to Republicans on all their phony scandals, from the "beer summit," to Van Jones, "death panels," Shirley Sherrod, contraception, Benghazi, and the IRS.

or we can pretend to govern.  "Just give me $10 more dollars, and I promise, after the next election, to pass something."  There's a party for that.

We can sell out, perpetuate the stalemate and the blackmail while ensuring that nothing much good ever passes.

Or we can stand up for what's right and kick the Repukes' asses. "Just give me a House majority and THIS is what we'll pass."

You know what you can do with your dishonest characterization of my position, don't you?
