  •  I don't tend to believe a thing they say (13+ / 0-)

They've been hiding things and lying about things for years.  John Brennan, just a couple of months ago in his confirmation hearing, said that the number of civilians killed by drone strikes was in the single digits.  It's in the thousands.

Anyway, I think that Jeremy Scahill said that one of the reasons given by anonymous sources is that it was an intelligence mistake.

Awlaki's son killed two weeks after his father was killed, by coincidence?  There have been several different stories about who the actual target was in that drone strike.  Each story has fallen apart, according to Scahill, who was talking about this just last night in Philadelphia and has talked about it in many recent interviews.  He's probably the most knowledgeable (non-govt) civilian on this subject as he has made it a special topic in his investigative journalism on covert wars and he knows the family.

Samir Khan was with Anwar al-Awlaki (the father) when he was blown up.  I don't know the details about the fourth man.  There are supposedly two other Americans who are not mentioned in Holder's letter, so six Americans.

...however, do we know that thousands of civilians have been killed by drone strikes? I would be interested to know how we know that number...?
