  •  Tucker's revenge, sort of? (5+ / 0-)

I.e. that an indie with cool leading-edge ideas and technologies can actually succeed in the cutthroat world of automaking. I've never driven or riden in one and clearly they're not for everyone with the 2 seats, high price and non-fossil "fuel", but I've seen them up close and they're gorgeous. I hope to be able to keep my now 21 year old car long enough so my next car will be 100% electric.

It's going to need a real trunk, though. And adult-sized back seats.

    •  Ah, apparently you haven't seen the Model S (5+ / 0-)

Tesla is about more than gorgeous sports cars. I'm looking forward to even more affordable (and practical yet stylish) models in the future!

      •  I'm not knocking gorgeous sports cars (0+ / 0-)

I've owned and driven a sports car for nearly 21 years now, and I think it's good looking. It can do things that bigger cars can't. But its carrying capacity leaves something to  be desired. My next car will be bigger, and electric.

        •  Well, the Model S is a sedan (1+ / 0-)

with a pretty decent amount of space in it, for its class - it seats 5 adults (in the same sense as, say, an Accord does) with a decent-sized trunk area.

But if a sedan won't cut it, you might look into the Model X, which goes into production next year. It's, it's minivan-sized, so I guess you can call it that, but it's no soccer-mom-mobile.

It has been available since June of last year.

Depending on how attached you are to your 21 year old car, maybe an EV conversion would be worth considering?  I'm thinking about doing that with an old NA Miata as long as I can keep the balance (handling) the same that Mazda made it.  That might not be too difficult with some of the newer batteries, though.  Removing the gas tank will also allow room to experiment with weight distribution.

It's a turbo that runs really smooth and has nearly 200 horses. Fossil fuel cars have got to go but there are things you don't tinker with. I'll probably end up selling it to some kid looking to do some mods and race his buddies.
