I know it can't possible be the case, but these seems like a repudiation of the Gospel of John, which says salvation is based on belief or faith in Jesus rather than in living a righteous life.  Don't get me started on John's gospel ...

It's flat-out stated by Jesus in that gospel that there are some people who do good things for other people without calling on his name in life who will get into heaven anyway.

I've never understood the hangup some of my co-religionists have over names and specific beliefs. I mean, they define belief in a segment of God as having to do with specific temporal events not everyone knows about and calling on a name he didn't actually go by rather than looking at what our own scripture says about what that segment of God claimed he was.

I'm pretty sure you worship a being who has compassion as a significantly defining trait by at least giving lip-service to compassionate things, not by acting as if withholding compassion was a virtue while calling out his name so he's sure to see you doing that.

Prayers and best wishes to those in Boston, in Texas, and for this week to be over without anything else happening.

I'm just talking about John.  John's inclusion in the four Gospels always struck me as a ploy by the church "fathers" to centralize authority by saying "my way or the highway [to hell ...].

with trying to get into Studio 54 in the late 70's.

There were all these rumors about what it took to get in, and mostly wrong, but people went to huge lengths to try to qualify.  But then when you got in, and even got to a VIP room, you stood around wondering wtf the big deal was.

    •  Them there's James 2:24-2:26. (0+ / 0-)
