Rangel and Cummings both were against the Patriot Act and it makes complete sense for them to continue this stance. The Obama Administration (and many Dems, though not nearly enough) pushed for protections for the media, a stance that Republicans were against although that view is changing (probably because the scary black Muslim is now the one snooping). You describe it as "particularly bad" but it was and remains completely legal. Warrants were sought, issued and as far as has been determined no emails or phone calls were listened in on (which also would have been legal if they chose to do so BTW). The fact that Republicans have been so vocal in their past support of spying to chase national security leaks renders their current cries of "scandalous" rather toothless. Personally I am against most of the powers granted in the Patriot Act and perhaps this will lead to changes in the law. As it stands right now the law IS a bad one...but everything that has been revealed in the DOJ story was completely within the legal constraints of the law. It may be a bad law but the actions of the DOJ do not fit the definition of "scandalous".

The patellar reflex is a deep tendon reflex which allows one to keep one's balance with little effort or conscious thought.
