  •  You would think (3+ / 0-)

that after it hit their own home state, Imhoff and Coburn would be all over climate change, wouldn't you?

    •  No, people like that will never admit they're (10+ / 0-)

wrong about anything, because then all of their 'edicts" will be questioned. Authoritarians don't like that.

is that, as was discussed in various diaries, there's little if any indication that tornado frequency and intensity has much to do with climate change. If anything, the fact we're seeing more destructive tornadoes relates more expanding development. Tornadoes that might once have struck open spaces are now more likely to hit the subdivisions, schools and malls that have sprung up (Moore, OK, being a prime examplar). So Imhofe and Coburn can hang on to their stupid ideas about climate change, though of course I've no doubt they'd prefer to blame disasters like the Moore tornado on God's wrath for not Americans being bigoted enough. Or something.

On the one hand, there is no doubt that the frequency of hurricane reports is because we can see them.  Before the sats, most hurricanes went undetected because they were at sea.  On the other hand, we do know that sea surface temperature affects hurricane development and intensity, and the temperature of the sea surface has warmed.

I really hate it when reporters talk about hearing about more hurricanes as proof of global warming, since that is both untrue and bad science.  But I think that if they stick to sea temperatures and the odd occurrences in the jet stream their case would be made - maybe more, maybe not, but the intensity seems to be increasing.

changes caused by vast black surfaces. If the crows and the hang-glider people head for mall parking lots to catch an updraft, perhaps we should consider that. And my father from Florida wants to know why all the parking lots are not shaded by roofs that are solar-panels on top providing relief for shoppers at the same time as catching the rays for power?
He claims it's because Big Oil owns Florida, and I was skeptical until I drove 400 miles of straight highway through unrelenting sunshine of a strength that is much greater than it is at the angle of my home in a much more northern latitude. And yet I saw not a single solar installation and only one billboard advertising solar water-heating. Here in the cloudy river valley of VT/NH we have more solar going on with far worse resources to work with. Why?

It is the gay marriage and Jason Collins that made these things happen.

Keep fightin' for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't you forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce.---Molly Ivins
