  •  Oh that's cool about Murrow's mom... (0+ / 0-)

...though in fairness, Beck went to Sehome in B'ham, and worked as a teenage disc jockey.  At the time he was just a kid though, like we all were.

In fairness, I do think most of his far rightieness was acquired well after he left and had little to do with actually growing up in MV & B'ham. Even MV could most likely be considered somewhat more liberal than he professes to be in this day and age - it certainly is far more multicultural than it was when he and I were young (he's almost exactly five years younger than I am).

Oh, and I'm a Bellingham grad, class of '77. I'll soon be entering my "old man yelling at cloud" stage of life. ;)

And yeah, I know tarantulas don't really act like that at all, so no snarking, this is the internet damnit!

That famous HS group picture with him in it is of our year book, and a friend of mine from the same era and place is fond of the quip "the only time you'll find me to the right of Glenn Beck".  But he was just a kid then.

This thread, in the end, made me smile -- so many old 'hamsters on DK!  Who knew? :)

I'm not at all surprised there are Kossacks in B'ham, I think it's the water.

I'm the 4th generation of my family to be from there, although the 5th has more or less departed en masse for elsewhere. My folks are still there, so I visit at least once a year when I can, and I'd still like to return permanently.

One last slogan: NO COAL! My parents live above the tracks, on the west side of town (near BTC) and the coal trains that run to Canada have already impacted their lives and property.

I'm a train guy; I like them, and appreciate them as a hobby of long standing. I do not like coal trains however, and if the coal terminal can be stopped, so much the better. It's all just pie in the sky anyway, since the Chinese are cutting back on buying the stuff, so the market is shrinking and thus less need for the terminal.

Ah, well, that's the subject of many a blog from Lefty Coaster...
