  •  I wonder if only that one span can be replaced (0+ / 0-)

    or if the whole bridge has to be replaced. What's the formal name for this kind of bridge? Add it to the list of bridges that are being or have recently been built or replaced in western WA:

    Tacoma Narrows
    520 Bridge over Lake Washington
    Alaska Way Viaduct in Seattle
    1st Ave Bridge south of Seattle

        There's also a bunch of pedestrian bridges in downtown Seattle, but locals not from Seattle tend to get defensive about anything that's too Seattlish.

        I think there's also been talk about a new bridge over the shipping canal to handle light rail. Plus, a bunch of tunnels have been dug in and around Seattle. Oh, and let's not forget the train to SeaTac, portions of which are elevated.

        Perhaps WA is the new bridge and tunnel mecca of America?
