dad's favorite comedians, and my dad was one of my favorite people, and I value his opinion highly.

I have read 3 biographies of Lenny Bruce and admire his crusading and his forthright no-compromising stances.

Please don't glorify what he was at the end, however.  He stood on stage night after night in a tattered bathrobe, reading from well-worn court documents about how his rights had been stripped from him, and he thought people actually cared.  At that point he was  speed-addicted and out of control, with cysts the size of ping pong balls at his injection sites.

I love him, but his downfall was horrific, and partly his own doing.

My analogy has nothing to do with comparing the two men as men or professionals; merely how they are handling their slippery slopes.

Your post did, however smack me into wanting to defend Lenny a bit, and explain my position.

    •  then what's the point of the analogy? (0+ / 0-)

Why pick an icon of free speech to compare to Limbaugh if you're not drawing some form of thematic comparison?  If you want to simply illustrate a once-powerful voice reduced to clownshow antics, choose Glen Beck.
