      Just curious, I guess...

I've been pondering, the last hour or so, trying to figure out if my thinking was shaped in any way by entertainment television -- whether in very early youth or later.

I can't say definitively one way or the other but I'm inclined to say they did not have a significant influence. Some of the situations depicted in Romper Room and The Mickey Mouse Club spurred questions if they were unfamiliar. I was a rural kid and didn't understand some urban references that popped up in those shows. The answers helped form some of my views of the world but those answers came from people, not television. Yet, I probably wouldn't have asked the questions but for the shows.

A while later, as I got interested in weekly or daily children's shows my friends and I would sometimes adopt the characters' personae and role play our own episodes. I believe my friends and I were (at least somewhat) independent thinkers and applied our own values to the situations. That could be an illusion, I really don't know with any certainty. We did have some lively arguments over whether some characters would have done the things we made them do.

Later still, in my teens and beyond, I am pretty sure that I watched shows that aligned with my philosophy and ignored and often reviled those that conflicted with my idealism.
