  •  democracy was designed to fix/prevent this shit (26+ / 0-)

and we were making steady but slow progress until 25 years ago when  reagan killed the fairness doctrine.

these guys couldn't do a fraction of the shit they've gotten away with if the left hadn't given them a free speech free ride on 1000 of the loudest radio stations on the planet. most absurdly, more than 1/4 of them piggyback our state funded universities.

there is still no effort by our major orgs or the dem party to monitor and challenge the koch bros best weapon.

i saw greenwald's film a while ago and i can't remember if he mentioned talk radio, he probably touched on it .... but i'll bet there was very little recognition most of the issues he brings up could not be manipulated as they are without pervasive unchallenged RW talk radio repetition.

they are all issues that could be rationally addressed and responded to in a functioning democracy but americans have allowed this radio monopoly to be used to short circuit our democratic feedback mechanisms and enable an army of ignorant sycophant republican reps.

there will be no rational national fact-based discussions of these issues without fixing the radio. progressive efforts of all kinds will be negated and minimized because of it.

This is a list of 76 universities for Rush Limbaugh that endorse global warming denial, racism, sexism, and GOP lies by broadcasting sports on over 170 Limbaugh radio stations.

    •  So true. (9+ / 0-)

Greenwald addresses the propaganda "Echo Chamber" where all the talking heads on TV and Radio spout the same, identical lie at the same time ie the Echo Chamber.  Both liberal and conservative media participate because of the power of $$.

      Greed rules.

Can we change this?  Yes, but not without some levels of discomfort that I fear few are willing to endure.  This is how the Right Wing can win and then our worst nightmares will come true.

So, are we willing to endure some levels of discomfort to push back?

For instance, what if this years High School graduates boycotted higher ed, which has become a collusive effort by Higher Ed administrations and the finance industry to essentially create generations of DEBT SLAVES?

What if it became popular to NOT buy cheap clothing made by quasi-slaves overseas?

      Just a thought......

It's difficult to be happy knowing so many suffer. We must unite.

    •  That means the flush Rush campaign (5+ / 0-)

Is one of the most important things that could be done now. It's slowing down the entire right wing talk radio set up.
